Fall may offer a season of changes—but it looks like the spirit of innovation continues to thrive even during the summer. And yes—we’ll be seeing those changes start to blossom over the next year or so. Where? Driskell Park in Albany, GA, right off South McKinley Street and Holloway Avenue. Let’s explore just what the upgrades will bring!
More about Driskell Park
You may know Driskell Park by another name: Carver Pool and Spray Park. There, many young Albany residents have learned to swim in the pool.
It also has a sports complex! Its newer namesake Coach Charles Driskell, also a recreation supervisor and an educator, once taught many children how to play there. The park’s change in title honors his memory.
About the upgrades
The City of Albany is investing in our community! They plan to add approximately $3 million worth of updates to Driskell Park in Albany. Funded by SPLOST VII money, this money will go to meaningful cause: giving those in our community a place to gather, grow, and connect.
Announced earlier this month, the plan includes upcoming features such as:
- Playground equipment;
- Stadium seating along the fields;
- Improvements to ball fields;
- A complete overhaul of the activity center;
- And more.
Changes to the activity center
Speaking of! The activity center will also receive some new additions of its own. First, they’ll tear it down and create a new center from the ground up. Then, they’ll top it off with enhancements like Wi-Fi and laptops. Once the construction phases finish and the doors open, the building will host after school activities as well as programs for children.
Construction start dates
As of now, there isn’t an official start date. However, officials believe that construction should begin in the next year to year and half.
